Finding specialist lawyers in regional areas

There is a common but inaccurate assumption that quality, experienced and specialist lawyers are only available in major cities. In fact, some of Australia’s most experienced and talented lawyers are working in regional areas, helping their clients navigate the law throughout various stages of their lives while actively and proudly supporting the local community.

A lawyer who is an expert in their area of law is called an Accredited Specialist. In NSW, the NSW Law Society operates the Specialist Accreditation Scheme to help the general public identify solicitors who have demonstrated expertise in a particular area of law. To become an Accredited Specialist a solicitor must have practised law full-time for at least five years and worked in their area of legal specialty for at least three years.

Morrisons – Criminal and Traffic Law Specialists is a great example of specialist lawyers based in regional areas. As the only private law firm in the Illawarra, Southern Highlands and South Coast regions with two solicitors recognised as Accredited Specialists in Criminal Law by the NSW Law Society, clients can be sure they are receiving exceptional advice and guidance.

Selecting the right lawyer in your region during your time of need can be difficult, so how do you choose the right person to help guide you?

A good place to start is Doyles Guide. This online resource provides a comprehensive, independent list of lawyers around Australia which is updated and assessed annually. You can search by the type of law and geographical area and Morrisons – Criminal and Traffic Law Partners Graeme Morrison and Matthew Ward are proud to be featured in the Doyles Guide as a recommended lawyers.

Also consider asking for recommendations from family members and friends you trust that live nearby. A regionally-based law firm that has earnt a reputation for providing high-quality legal advice to its clients, especially when they are going through a highly stressful and worrying time, is worth making contact with.
